Middlesbrough Mural: A Tribute to ‘Smoggie Queens’

I was commissioned by the BBC to produce a mural to celebrate the launch of the second series of ‘Smoggie Queens’ in the heart of Middlesbrough on the side of the Cleveland Centre. This was an opportunity that I jumped at as soon as I heard about it – As a family, we loved the first series – So this was something that I couldn’t wait to be a part of.

On the 27th May after 4 days of painting an opening/reveal event was held with some of the cast and crew coming down to see the mural for the first time. It was an amazing day getting to meet everyone involved with the show and chat about the work not only with the cast but also BBC News, members of the Council and Mayor of Middlesbrough and their promotional team.

The feedback on social media has been quite overwhelming with the piece and posts about it receiving thousands of likes and comments and being shared across Instagram, TikTok and Facebook as well as articles on local news sites and getting to see it talked about on BBC Look North.

Here are just a few photos from the day and from the process of painting it…
